The Legend of Zelda/Legends of Hyrule
Okay, you have the games, the cartoon series, and my fanfics. How do they all fit together? Nintendo's way out of this storytelling mess is to say that the games are based on fragmented texts and legends, so they have no way of knowing if each set of Link and Zelda are the same two people or if they are different ones sharing the same names. I call it lazy correction after-the-fact, but Nintendo owns the rights. I'm just having fun.
I decided that the Link and Zelda of the first two games are the same. The cartoon series that used to come on the Super Mario Bros. Super Show took place after the second game and before my first fanfic, The Legend of Zelda: Verge of Destruction. The Link and Zelda of the third game, A Link to the Past, are ancestors of the first-and-second-game Link and Zelda. And the Link and Zelda of the fourth game, Ocarina of Time, are ancestors of the third-game Link and Zelda.
Confused yet? Don't worry, I spelled out everything below. I have placed the characters in their respective places in the family tree, but bear in mind this is an incomplete list. The history of Hyrule spans centuries. I have broken the family tree with snippets of history and titles of my fanfics and how many years fall between events in an effort to keep this condensed. If I missed something or confused you even more, tell me so I can fix it.
Family Tree and Chronology

My friend William "Billy" Robinson sent me the URL for Legend of Zelda: The Grand Adventure. I checked it out. Seems that somebody finally put out a timeline and I was pretty close. I haven't changed my timeline. It is what works for my Legend of Zelda/Legends of Hyrule fanfics. But I recommend this site; they have the timeline, an on-line encyclopedia of all things Hyrulian, excellent fan-art, and place to submit fanfics.
