Legends of Hyrule: The Hyrueliana

The Triforce

I know some of you people are looking at that title and saying to yourselves, "she goofed it up." I did not. Most of the story takes place before the Kingdom of Hyrule was even started, and language and spelling change over time. So this spelling was chosen on purpose.

The Hyrueliana began after I completed the first draft of To Be A Hero, the draft that squeezed three novels into one. The inspiration was actually bit of dialogue between Zoe and Orden at the end, when he tells her his true name. She points out that he shares it with a mythological god of Hyrule.

Playing the What if ...? game (a game which every serious writer should learn) I asked myself "What if the reason Orden shares the name was that he WAS the god? What if Zoe and he traveled to the past of Hyrule and actually had a hand in create the kingdom? What if they met the people whose descendents would become Link's family and Zelda's family, and Zoe had to help them marry otherwise she wouldn't exist?" It's fairly simple to see how a plot can develop from this game.

I went to work on the story. The villain, Agmaraa, I came to discover had a bigger role in Hyrule's history than anyone knew. I also learned at some point in the future, Lyle takes on his mother's role as guardian, insuring that what must happen, what has happened, and what will happen happens when it should. Only the mortal/immortal blend allows them to have this unique view. If the time traveling throws you off, check out the Family Tree and Chronology.

The Hyrueliana was completed in 1995. After I was finished with it, I started the revisions to To Be A Hero.
